Moonlight Silhouette Cinematography

Silhouettes are some of my favorite visuals. There’s something so mysterious and elegant about them.

I set up 2 Savage LED lite panels, one outside each of the windows, set to 3200K and at maximum brightness. It helps to have battery operated lights when setting up outside. These are the actual curtains in this room which was perfect as they act as natural diffusion panels.

Once the LED panels were set up, I ran back inside to jump in front of the camera. When I first jumped in front of the camera, I didn’t do any wardrobe change. In reviewing the footage, I didn’t like the silhouette made from my bulky sweater and crazy hair-do. So I removed the shirts and let the hair down. The differences is night and day. What was a bulky and non descript silhouette became something more elegant and sensual.

The purpose of this exercise was not to have award winning acting, but rather to try out a silhouette lighting concept. For a first attempt, I’m pleased with how this turned out and can’t wait to try this again.
